Board of Apportionment's Legislative Redistricting Meetings Begin Tomorrow
Tomorrow, the Arkansas Board of Apportionment will hold the first of seven public meetings throughout the state on legislative redistricting. The first meeting will take place in Jonesboro at 6 pm.
The Board of Apportionment consists of Governor Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, and Secretary of State Mark Martin. Their task is to redraw the borders of Arkansas' 100 House districts and 35 Senate districts, to reflect the new population numbers from the 2010 U.S. Census. According to the official Arkansas Redistricting website, the group has targeted August 1 as its date to adopt and file the final maps for the new districts.

- Tuesday, May 24 - Jonesboro (Student Union Auditorium, Arkansas State University) - 6-8 pm
- Tuesday, May 31 - Hope (Klipsch Auditorium) - 6-8 pm
- Tuesday, June 7 - Monticello (Fine Arts Center, University of Arkansas-Monticello) - 6-8 pm
- Tuesday, June 14 - Fayetteville (Location TBA) - 6-8 pm
- Tuesday, June 21 - Little Rock (Location TBA) - 6-8 pm
- Tuesday, June 28 - Helena (Location TBA) - 6-8 pm
- Wednesday, July 6 - Fort Smith (Location TBA) - 6-8 pm
The Board of Apportionment also allows citizens to submit comments about the redistricting process on its website. Comments can be emailed to the Board or submitted on its messageboard or blog.
Citizens can also view draft House and Senate maps on the Board's website.
